Product details

This pale, light-bodied golden ale is copyrighted by, brewed in, and named for the German city of Köln. Kölschbier is traditionally given a long, cold aging period like a lager, which makes for a very smooth and clean beer. A small dose of German Hallertau hops cuts the richness of the malt. "Spritzy" is a word often used to describe Kolsch - very refreshing, and a popular lawnmower beer for beer snobs!

All grain Kolsch kit

Made my first all grain brew and it turned out great! The Kolsch kit is a winner.

It would be nice to give approximately percentage of alcohol before being made on all recipes

First brew of the new year!

Going to be honest, tweaked this recipe a bit. Had some Weyermann Cologne malt left from over a year ago. An extra pound of malt and some surprisingly well mash efficiency I ended up with almost 8 gallons per boil volume. Threw in a ¼ ounce of Perle hops at the beginning of the boil to keep my IBUs where I wanted then split the 30 minute Hersbrucker hops and added ½ ounce at 5 minutes. Ended up with just a little over 6 gallons in the fermenter. Going to bottle a gallon and keg the rest. The Imperial Dieter yeast started showing activity 4 hours after pitch! Been bubbling away for 4 days now at 64 degrees. Looking foreward to this beer after I let it condition/lager for 30 days. Wish I could post pics because this was one of the clearest beers I have ever had coming out of the kettle.

Pretty good Kölsch kit

First time brewing this kit and it turned out pretty well. I have placed this kit on my "thumbs-up" list to brew again.
The only thing is I'll have to make sure I plan ahead because it has been taking Northern Brewer at least 2 weeks to deliver after purchased...that's a long wait.
Cheers!
